Janus Films was created by David Westgate, an actor and filmmaker. After migrating from South Africa to the UK, he studied theatre for 6 years, exploring different methods of telling stories which involved the styles and approaches we’re all familiar with in Europe, while being introduced to and practising many different approaches traditional to Africa, Central Asia and as far as Bali and Japan. With this blend of creative expression from an incredibly broad perspective on storytelling, the way in which we tell stories through theatre or film became a richer and more challenging endeavour.
During the pandemic, David redirected his career into cinema. Always having a love for cinema since a young age, he used the time that was available during lockdowns to invest in working with audio visual projects both in production and post production. Still strongly routed in theatre, he worked with numerous alumni from the same drama school he trained at to create stories with our bodies and voices, and to share it through audio visuals to the audiences that could not be found in theatres at the time.
At the beginning of 2023, after 10 years in the UK, David migrated to Spain where he found a long lost connection between the creative, movie-loving child he used to be in South Africa to the trained and experienced theatrical actor he became in the UK.
The purpose of Janus Films is to bring to audience’s stories that can remind us of our humanity, challenge our perspectives and habits and to do it in newly explored ways and as free from any conformity as possible. To be as creative as possible, to work with loved ones and close friends and to give non-working artists the opportunity to work and to simply have fun doing so.
